Amidst the post-2022 Oscars chatter dominated by discussions of the Will Smith and Chris Rock incident, there’s a duo deserving of more spotlight: Lady Gaga and Liza Minnelli.
Gaga, who shared the stage with Minnelli for the final award presentation of the evening, has been lauded for her graciousness and interaction with the legendary performer.
As the ceremony drew to a close, Gaga and Minnelli stepped onto the stage to present the last award. Amidst the applause, Gaga positioned herself to the side, ensuring Minnelli, at 76 years old, received the spotlight she deserved.
“You see that? The audience, they adore you,” Gaga remarked, leaning in to grasp Minnelli’s hand.
Acknowledging Minnelli’s monumental contribution, Gaga highlighted the 50th anniversary of Cabaret, the film for which Minnelli won Best Actress in a Leading Role in 1972.
Equipped with cue cards, Minnelli commenced the introduction of the nominees for Best Picture, momentarily stumbling over her words. Swiftly, Gaga stepped in, offering support.
Before the nominee clips rolled, Gaga whispered to Minnelli, “I’ve got you.”
Minnelli’s gratitude was captured by their microphones, her response audible: “I know, thank you.”
As they announced CODA as the final winner of the night, Minnelli expressed her joy at being there, especially alongside Gaga, proclaiming, “I’m your biggest fan.”
Online, viewers were moved by this heartfelt exchange, drawing parallels between Gaga’s treatment of Minnelli and her relationship with Tony Bennett.
