Cindy Crawford admits she ‘changed’ herself to make short-lived marriage to Richard Gere work

Despite more than three decades passing since her brief marriage to Richard Gere, Cindy Crawford is revisiting the past to reflect on her relationship with the Pretty Woman star in a new Apple TV+ docuseries, The Super Models.

The 57-year-old fashion icon shared insights into her mindset as a 22-year-old deeply in love during the early days of their relationship.

“In the beginning of a relationship, when you’re a young woman, you’re like, ‘You like baseball? I like baseball. You’re really into Tibetan Buddhism? I might be into that. I’ll try that,’” she revealed.

Given Gere’s well-known commitment to Buddhism, Crawford admitted to molding herself around the interests of her partner at the time.

She acknowledged that not only did her beliefs undergo a shift, but her career also took a different trajectory. Previously part of the “fashion elite,” Crawford found herself exploring new avenues.

“He was older, so I just was like in a different circle,” she explained, “and not doing some of those same fashiony things anymore.”

The supermodel recognized that, at 22, she was “still figuring out” her identity and struggled at times in a relationship with Gere, who was 37.

“I didn’t want to hear it from him because at 22, you think you know everything and you think you’re already formed, and then you realize 10 years later, you’re like, ‘Oh my gosh, they were totally right.’”

The couple married in 1991 but ultimately parted ways three years later. Crawford later married Rande Gerber in 1998, while Gere went on to wed Carey Lowell from 2002 to 2016 before marrying Alejandra Silva in 2018, who is 34 years his junior.
